Word on the Wash 2020 and COVID 19 Update
from the Word on the Wash Team
Have you ever approached a meeting knowing that a decision will have to be made that you don’t want to make, but there is no way to avoid it? It was like that as the Word on the Wash committee zoom meeting approached on June 8th. The facts were clear because of lock down, crowding of great numbers was not under consideration, social distancing was unlikely to be lifted before the end of the year, and opening the schools in September would be in stages closing down our event at the Kings Lynn Academy.
The committee prays together before turning to the meeting’s agenda. One member prayed thanking God that the Lord Jesus is sovereign in the affairs of the nations and in that truth there is great comfort. The prayer reminded me of a wonderful message I had heard from a Chinese pastor, brother Osh, a few days before our meeting from the prophet Habakkuk. If you have never read the prophecy, please do. He was troubled about the state of the nation and the rapid spread of the “virus” of the period, the invasion of the Babylonians. God told Habakkuk to do two practical but faith testing things, reminding him that “the righteous live by faith.” He was to watch and to wait. To watch what God is doing and to wait till his purposes are fulfilled. The prophecy ends with that majestic affirmation of faith in chapter 3 v17-19 concluding with “The Sovereign Lord is my strength; he makes my feet like the feet of a deer, he enables me to go on the heights.”
The decision was taken to cancel Word on the Wash on September 11 and 12, 2020, and to postpone the event to September 10 and 11, 2021. While there was disappointment, we were on the heights by God’s strength, and immediately decided to stream as much of the event as we could through the Word on the Wash website: www.wordonthewash.org.uk
We have already a most helpful video from James McIntosh and Sam Driver of the Christian Institute about the introduction in September to all schools the Relations and Sex Education RSE syllabus, of particular importance to parents. We encourage you to keep looking at the website in the coming weeks up to September, as this year’s speakers make presentations on their seminar subjects and Bible teaching messages.
It is worth pointing out, that on the day of Pentecost we read that the Christians were “all together in one place.” The blessing of the Holy Spirit and the power of God equipped the church to proclaim the good news to all nations. Lock down has locked us out of being all together in one place. Once again we have to cancel the planned prayer gathering at the Kings Lynn Evangelical Church on Saturday, June 20. As we have time to prepare we plan to keep the planned third prayer gathering on August 22 from 0930 to 1030am by hosting a zoom meeting inviting all the Word on the Wash Volunteers to join the meeting. If you would like to join the meeting, please call the Word on the Wash number: 01485 600336 and leave your email address for the link, ID and Password.
